How To Get To Us

There is no public transport system to Tora. Here are your travel options:

Travelling from the North

Please note, the Manawatu Gorge (SH 3) has closed.

From the outskirts of Palmerston North either take the Saddle Road to connect with Woodville, or the Pahiatua Track to Pahiatua.  From Woodville/Pahiatua travel south on State Highway 2 to Greytown. At the southern end of Greytown, (just on the outskirts) there is a sign to the left-hand side of the road directing you to Martinborough. From Martinborough use the directions provided below.

FROM WELLINGTON

Private Car

You can drive to the walk by following the directions on Google map. It is approximately 35 minutes from Martinborough to Whakapata Cottage (details also below – see ‘From Martinborough’). There is plenty of secure off road parking for any type of vehicle you may have.  As the track is circular, you will finish your walk where you started – back at your car.

Train Services

Daily Train Services Available From Wellington To Featherston (Closest Service)
Wairarapa Line (Wellington – Masterton). There is no public transport service to Tora. You can arrange with Rimutaka Shuttles to get you to and from the Tora Coastal Walk from Wairarapa railway stations.

Shuttles

Green Jersey Explorer Tours offers shuttles from Wellington or will meet the train in Featherston.  As the regions, premier cycle tour operator, ask them about hiring bikes to ride the vineyards pre or post your Tora Coastal Walk experience.

From Martinborough

Make your way to Martinborough. From Kitchener Street (the main road into Martinborough) drive around The Square and exit left onto Jellicoe Street. Travel for 2kms. Turn left onto White Rock Road. Drive along this road for approximately 34kms, until you reach Tuturumuri School. Just past the school, cross the little bridge, and turn left onto Tora / Te Awaiti Road.

Drive approximately 3-4 minutes down Tora Road and look out for the large Tora Coastal Walk sign on the left hand side of the road. We are soon after this sign on the right hand side, at 298 Tora Road.
